Alicia

Oh, my God. When I first started, I was more of "You do what I say." That's the way my dad raised me. You do what I say, you don't question it.

I wish I would have had the knowledge to know that I don't have to be that way. And I didn't know at first that it didn't work for all kids. Some kids need that firm hand. Some other kids don't—they shy away from it or they turn themselves off.

So I wish I would have had more resources on different approaches that could have been provided for me before I went to school to get it. You know, I had to go back to college and take up early childhood development to find out these other approaches that might work for these kids that I'm dealing with now.

They just kind of threw you in there, "Do what you can do, and we'll see where everything lands." And that didn't sit well for me. So I was like, let me go back to school and see what information I can get from there to bring back, to be a better coordinator, to be a better role model for these students.
